If your day starts poorly, it can be really difficult…
Most of us are born with smooth, even toned skin. But over time, age, sun damage and discoloration comes into play, leaving many of us with uneven skin tones. So, what can we do to achieve the skin tone we had in our younger years?
According to the health and beauty experts at Annmarie Skin Care, as we age, there is an increase of melanin production in our skin. Melanin is the natural pigment of skin that is responsible for skin, hair and eye color. Too much of it can result in uneven skin tone. This is the result of melanin clumping in certain spots, making the darker areas appear. Sun damage, hormones and medications can all be culprits for uneven skin tone.
If you are unhappy with your skin tone, here are some tips to achieving a more balanced appearance:
Drink Lots of Water
Water is a great choice for a beverage since it cleanses your skin from the inside out. It will help keep wrinkles at bay while making your skin appear plump. It’s also a great alternative to sodas, sugary drinks and alcohol, which are likely to cause pimples and build up that lead to uneven skin tone. It is recommended to drink 8 ounces of water a day.
Sun damage is the most common cause for uneven skin tone. Not only can it cause wrinkles and skin cancer, but it can lead to the formation of freckles. The best way to combat this is to wear sunscreen. It is recommended that sunscreen is worn every day, even during cloudy weather. Make sure sunscreen is a minimum of SPF 30 and that it protects against both UVA and UVB rays.
Avoid Junk Food
Chemicals, oils and sugar in junk foods can cause skin to produce oil, which can clog pores and lead to uneven skin tone. Incorporate fresh fruits and vegetables into your diet, especially those that are rich in antioxidants and help in evening out skin complexion.
Exercising helps you produce new skin cells that which will contribute to keeping the skin tone even and young. It’s not necessary to do a heavy work out, just enough to get your blood pumping. If you sweat after the workout, be sure to wash your face to avoid buildup which can lead to a breakout.
There are also techniques you can add to your beauty regimen to keep skin clear and even toned:
Dead skin cells can give your skin an uneven tone and aged look. Exfoliate skin up to twice a day to slough off dead skin cells to reveal newer, younger skin and a revitalized appearance.
Use Face Peels
Like exfoliators, a face peel will also work to get rid of dead skin cells to reveal younger, revitalized skin. There are face peels designed to target wrinkles, acne, and other complexion issues, so choose one that is suited for you.
Moisturizers reduce flaky, dry skin evening out complexion and leaving skin smooth. Look for a moisturizer that contains vitamin C and antioxidants. There are many available that contain an SPF as well.
