Eye Care 101

Eye Care 101

You probably spend quite a bit of time and money taking care of your skin, but you may neglect your eyes until it comes time to cover up those seemingly ever-present dark circles. The truth is, your eyes need just as much care as your skin but the needs of your eye area are a bit different than the rest of your face. These three simple eye care techniques will yield amazing results for your eyes.

Use Cucumbers
Cucumbers are the quintessential eye treatment. This treatment has become commonplace in spas and is often depicted in movies as a way to pamper yourself. Cucumber slices on your eyes are really an effective way to treat dark circles and help diminish the looks of fine lines. Cucumbers consist mainly of water, making them a super hydrating treatment for your eyes. The greatest thing about this eye care treatment is that you can do it anywhere at any time for practically no money. All you need is a cucumber, a vegetable peeler and a knife. Peel and slice the cucumber and place on your eyes for 15 to 20 minutes. A fun variation during the summer is to use cool cucumber slices for an added bit of refreshment.

Be Gentle
Your eye skin is delicate and less elastic than the rest of your face, so you always want to treat your eye area gently. Avoid rubbing things in, tugging or pulling at the skin around your eyes. Instead of these motions, gently use your ring finger to apply products like eye cream and concealer. Once under your eye, softly tap or pat products into the skin to blend. If you use hard products like scrubs or chemical peels, be sure to keep them well away from your eyes to avoid damaging the skin with products that are too strong for the area.

Get Your Vitamins
Skin care is not only what you put onto your face, it’s also about what you put into your body. Your diet has a significant impact on your overall health, including that of your skin. Two of the most important vitamins for your eyes are vitamins A and C. Vitamin A is essential to eye health because it helps improve and protect your vision while also giving the skin around your eyes a healthy, radiant glow. Vitamin C can help lighten hyperpigmentation and if you’re eating a healthy diet with enough vitamin C, you may start to notice your under-eye area becoming a bit lighter.

In addition to these three easy tips, your eyes also benefit from an overall healthy lifestyle. Making sure you eat a balanced, nutritious diet and you are moving regularly go a long way in improving the appearance of your skin overall, including your eyes. Drinking plenty of water helps keep your skin hydrated and also flushes toxins from your body. If you want a little extra oomph when it comes to clearing your skin, try drinking a glass of hot water with freshly squeezed lemon in it every morning. These three tips go a long way in helping you achieve the healthiest, most beautiful eye area.
