For many of us, breakfast is the only reason for getting out of bed in the morning, so it needs to be worth it. Here are a few breakfast smoothies that will guarantee to have you throwing the sheets off and running to your blender.
Chocolate Chia Smoothie
So good, you’ll forget it’s good for you. This is basically just a green smoothie with a hint of natural cocoa sweetening, for the green part, throw in some spinach, kale, or any green veggies you have handy. Add some banana, milk (almond milk or soy milk are great options); throw in a hint of vanilla, unsweetened cocoa powder, and lots of chia seeds. Good morning!
Cacao Bean Oatmeal Cookie Smoothie
Anything with “cookie” in the title must be pretty good! Start by making an oatmeal soup out of oats, chia seeds, and almond milk.
Add in some almond butter to get the cookie flavor and super thick texture. Add a little banana and maybe a few dates, and then the cacao nibs. Rich in antioxidants, fiber, magnesium, and, most importantly, flavor, this smoothie will kick start your day.
Superpower Morning Smoothie
You won’t need a phone booth for this superhero transformation! Take a large handful of chopped kale, spinach, or collards, add one frozen peeled banana cut into several piece. Throw in 1 cup of unsweetened coconut water, 2 tablespoons almond butter, 1 tablespoon flax oil, and 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Puree in a blender until all bits of green are fully blended and watch your muscles grow.
Kale Avo-berry Smoothie
So cool, it has its own power couple nickname.
Pour 2 cups milk du jour (almond, soy, etc.), add 1 cup of frozen blueberries and one cup of kale or baby spinach. Next comes the 1/2 avocado, or avo, if you’re in the club, and a 1/2 teaspoon each of spirulina and vanilla powder or extract. Add three dates, or your favorite sweetener, blend, and enjoy.
The Green Drink
There’s nothing like drinking something green to make you feel good about yourself. For this one, you’ll need 1 1/4 cup coconut or filtered water, the juice of one lime, 1 1/2 cups chopped green, 1/4 cup flat leaf parsley. 1/2 an English cucumber (diced), 1small apple (diced), 1/2 cup diced frozen peaches or mango, and one inch of peeled ginger. Combine in blender and blend on high until greens are fully incorporated. Breakfast is served!
