We often hear about antioxidants and how valuable they are…
When the Holiday Season comes around, undoubtedly we will all gain a pound..or two…or three. It’s something we all come to expect, yet at the same time, dread. Making healthy choices in terms of food isn’t always easy when you go visit mom for a Holiday dinner, and she piles loads of mashed potatoes on your plate – enough to feed a small village – coupled with enough milk refills in your glass to fill your dietary guideline for a week. Once the Holiday Season is over, you’re left with a bulge and struggle to fit into your favorite jeans. Let us just say – Vine Vera gets it. We have moms, too.
That’s why we have put together this simple and easy to follow guide on how you can lose those extra holiday pounds almost as easily as you packed them on. If you follow these simple rules, you will undoubtedly see a dramatic difference in your waist size, and self-esteem.
Think Like a Fish – Drink More Water
Okay, okay, for all the technical people out there, fish don’t technically drink water, but you know what we mean. Doctors recommend 8-12 glasses per day. Try to – at least for a while – nix any sugary beverages you are willing to forgo, and stick to water only. This will help detoxify and cleanse your body from any toxins and also help with staying hydrated for the next point, which is…
You didn’t expect to lose those Holiday pounds without it, did you? Incorporating 30 – 60 minutes per day of vigorous, heart pumping aerobic exercise and walking is essential to burning those excess calories in which you’ve converted into pounds. Be sure to not take on more than you can handle, however. Walking is one of the best things you can do to lose weight, whether its on a treadmill or in your own neighborhood. Add some interval training and sessions into the mix for the best calorie burning workout you could have and watch the pounds melt off.
Watch Your Calorie Intake
Eating less calories than you burn is generally the way to go if you want to see improved weight loss almost immediately. You can opt for a healthy salad with chicken for lunch, which will only rank in at or around 350-400 calories, and if you head to the gym soon thereafter and spend an hour on the Eliptical, you can burn anywhere from 350+ calories, therefore there is nothing to gain. It might take a little while to learn how to count everything, but a good place to start is to write down how many calories you take in, and how many you burn for comparison. There are websites such as SparkPeople which offer free instructional guidelines to help you lose weight and even track your calories burned and calories consumed for you.
Don’t Eat After 7 PM
Generally speaking, it takes two hours for food to break down and process in your system. When you eat late, food generally doesn’t have enough time to break down, process, and convert to energy sources and therefore, sits in your stomach and essentially packs on even more pounds. If you are feeling hungry after 7 PM, drink some cool water and if you must, opt for raw carrots or celery, which have a low glycemic index, and won’t add any weight and are virtually zero calories.
Eat Small Meals Throughout the Day to Boost Metabolism
Eat four-six small meals throughout the day to boost your metabolism and kick start it into gear. It may take a while for the change to take effect, but once it does, you will have easier time burning those calories during your workouts. You will also not be very hungry throughout the day. This is the type of meal plan many doctors assign to their patients who are diabetic or pre-diabetic, to help them lose weight.
With determination and a bit of patience, those pounds will come melting off and you will feel better than you did before you put the weight on! Give it a little bit of time and you will be amazed at the results. Remember; it always takes longer to lose weight than it does to put it on. Give yourself a month to safely lose 1-5 pounds, and you might be surprised at the end result. You could end up losing more than you did before!
Good luck to you in your weight loss endeavors – from all of us at Vine Vera.
